It¡¯s been a tumultuous year for all of those involved with Australia¡¯s favorite traveling festival Big Day Out. After the original sale of the company and the shock announcement in June 2014 of the festival¡¯s indefinite future, the rumour mill continues to churn with word that event powerhouse Live Nation Entertainment may want a piece of the pie.

Big Day Out hit five of Australia¡¯s biggest cities annually in January for what was once considered one of the most sought-after and sold out music events the nation had ever seen. In 2011, festival promoter Ken West openly discussed the struggles the festival faced due to the highly competitive nature of the music industry.

¡°You¡¯re in this quandary where you¡¯re trying to do something that is really important for the local scene and you¡¯ve got other people that are just trying to cherry pick the things that work out of your event¡ It¡¯s the ultimate thing of art vs. commerce,¡± West said at the time.

Live Nation Entertainment is a Texan-based company founded in 2007 who have grappled their way to the top and had great success in the US market; already owning US electronic festivals Electric Daisy Carnival, Hard Summer Carnival and Creamfields Music Festival. With a pocketful of big-name events already under their belt, Big Day Out would be the first Australian festival-investment the company has garnered.
