After three blockbuster epics, Robert Downey Jr. confirmed that he would be happily hanging up the ironclad suit in any further standalone flicks expected in the much loved Ironman series. But there could be something that would change his mind ¨C Mel Gibson coming on board as the Director.

An unlikely scenario, but a humorous one ¨C at least to the star who was paid a purported $50 million for his appearance in Ironman follow-on The Avengers. It¡¯s no secret that Downey Jr. and Marvel Studios had faced tensions over the years, with talks of contract dropouts and pay rise demands a continual cloud hanging over the franchise.

In a recent interview to promote his new film ¡®The Judge¡¯, Downey was asked if Mel Gibson as Director would be enough to bring him back for a fourth and final installment of the mega-series.

¡°Why not? That movie would be bananas,¡± was the star¡¯s cool response.

It appears as though Downey might be ready to hang up his action boots once and for all, discussing how his method of acting in action roles in the past seem ridiculous to him now.

¡°Hearing the cracking of my own bones on Iron Man 3, I finally came out of what can only be described as a five-year flight of fancy where I thought, if Sherlock Holmes can do this, it means I can,¡± the star said. ¡°If Tony can jump from one part of a scaffold to the other and not bust his ankle, well then let¡¯s do it two or three times and go to lunch. Looking back, I¡¯m surprised and really embarrassed that some middle-aged guy was thinking like that.¡±

Downey Jr.¡¯s next role in ¡®The Judge¡¯ looks to be a little more realistic, as he plays a fast-talking solicitor defending his long-lost father against a murder charge. ¡®The Judge¡¯ is set for release in late October.
