Gotye has revealed a progress update on his highly anticipated fourth album.

During a recent interview with Triple J¡¯s The Doctor, Gotye, better known as Wally De Backer, let slip some recent developments on the forthcoming record.

¡°I¡¯m always tinkering away¡± he said. ¡°On a bunch of travels with The Basics I¡¯ve wandered off to do my own things. I took a trip to Moscow to record a very odd, rare instrument. It¡¯s made by Leon Theremin, who people might know for his namesake instrument. I¡¯ve been tracking down specific sounds for these song concepts I have. It¡¯s taking a while, as is my way. I really hope I¡¯d be mixing a new Gotye record by the end of the year, hopefully have the songs together first thing next year.¡±

The Aussie singer has been busy drumming with his band The Basics for the most part of 2014. However, he took a night off to play a one-off show over the weekend at Melbourne¡¯s Town Hall, under the Gotye moniker, in support of park rangers and the Thin Green Line Foundation (the world¡¯s only charity dedicated entirely to protecting endangered species and threatened eco-systems).

Gotye¡¯s new full-length will be the follow-up to his 2011 effort Making Mirrors, which skyrocketed him to global success. He earned a number of accolades for the release, including a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album and Album of the Year at the ARIA Music Awards.

The ¡®Hearts A Mess¡¯ singer also lent his vocals to Melbourne artist, Spender¡¯s track ¡®Hotel Home¡¯, which featured on his Modern Pest EP earlier this month.

Gotye¡¯s delicate vocals are the cherry on top of Spender¡¯s enchanting electronic beats and ethereal sounds. The accompanying music video sees De Backer singing on the television set in a hotel room, while Spender restlessly occupies the space ¨C rolling on the floor, pacing the room and eventually constructing the ultimate rave teepee out of mattresses and sheets.

Fans thought the Gotye moniker might fade and become somebody that music used to know, but it¡¯s clear now that we will be hearing new music from the singer as early as next year.
