Hundreds of Coldplay fans flocked the streets of Newtown to star as extras in the video for their new single ¡®A Sky Full of Stars¡¯.

Responding to a Twitter call-out from the band ¨C requesting 250 people meet at the iconic Courthouse Hotel at 11.30am ¨C fans crowded Newtown¡¯s busy King Street, where front-man Chris Martin lead the crowd like a pied piper.

Each dressed like a colourful one-man band, the British indie rock group strolled the streets, singing and playing up to the crowd good-naturedly. Despite the confetti cannons, the shoot was not all rainbows and smiles. The super group were forced to fend off media and television cameras for an hour prior to capturing some ¡®natural¡¯ footage.

It was One Direction-esque mayhem, and so, at 10:50am the quartet took to Twitter to warn stragglers to turn back, as the numbers had been met. ¡°We¡¯ve already got 250 fans at ?#ASFOSvideo shoot location so please DONT COME DOWN if you¡¯re not here already. You won¡¯t get it in. Sorry!¡± the band Tweeted.

Once the shoes were filled, the 250 extras were informed that Martin would begin at Mary Street, and wander down King Street to join the band in front of the Martin Luther King mural that reads: ¡°I have a dream,¡± before finishing up outside The Hub.

Coldplay touched down in Sydney to play a one-off gig this Thursday at the historic Enmore Theatre to promote their new album Ghost Stories. The show, which sold out in under three minutes, will showcase singles such as ¡®Magic¡¯ and ¡®Midnight¡¯.

Chris Martin, who announced his split from Gwyneth Paltrow in March this year, has refused to do any interviews while in Australia. Coldplay will also perform on The Voice Monday June 23 (Channel Nine, 7.30pm) and rumour has it that a rough edit of their ¡®A Sky Full Of Stars¡¯ video may surface on YouTube by Tuesday evening.
