Avicii Tops Spotify’s “25 Under 25” List With Over 1 Billion Streams

Avicii 1 Billion Spotify Streams

Music streaming site Spotify has crowned Swedish producer Avicii number one on their inaugural list of music’s 25 artists under the age of 25.

The EDM producer, whose real name is Tim Bergling, is the first artist under the age of 25 to reach one billion streams on Spotify, with his smash hit ‘Wake Me Up’ receiving the most streams ever in Spotify history.

“This has been such an incredible year, and taking the top spot on Spotify‘s 25 under 25, just a few months before my 25th birthday, is unbelievable,” said Avicii in a press release. “I truly love what I do and I’m so grateful to my fans and to Spotify for being such enthusiastic supporters of my music.”

Being the only dance act ranked in the top five, Avicii is followed by New Zealand songstress Lorde, the controversial, tongue-flashing Miley Cyrus, Brit boy band One Direction and relationship lamenter Taylor Swift. The streamlining service determined the ranking by considering number one hits, volume, growth of streams, shares and viral chart success from the past year.
