Billboard magazine has named rapper Jay-Z and his Pop Queen wife Beyonce as the most powerful people in the music industry.
Every year, Billboard releases it¡¯s Power 100 List, listing down the most influential people in the record business.
No surprises there that the husband and wife team have topped the list, followed by a host of CEOs and unnamed industry players, including Jimmy Iovine, the chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M and Lucian Grainge, the CEO and chairman of Universal Music Group.
Billboard cited the power couple¡¯s ¡°star power to release new albums in unprecedented¡±.
It mentioned how Jay Z¡¯s ¡®Magna Carta Holy Grail¡® album, which was released through Samsung and B¡¯s self titled visual album, which was released through iTunes, destroying sales records along the way, as the reasons for their unprecedented power.
¡°He gave his album away, she charged a premium price for hers,¡± commented Billboard.
