The Roots returning to Australia?

The Roots Australian Tour 2013

Grammy Award winning, hip-hop/neo soul band, The Roots have revealed their plans to return to Australian shores.

It all started with Drummer Questlove tweeting to a fan that the band “will be in Aussie Day after Xmas for a week in 2013”. If Questlove is right, this will be first time since 2007 when the sextet played across the Australian landscape in the Blues and Roots Festival. They were suppose to return in 2009 for the Good Vibrations festival, but unfortunately had to cancel because of scheduling conflicts.

There were rumors circling that the band would “retire” from touring after becoming the host band on The Jimmy Fallon Show. Yet the band is set to be back on the touring front with news that they have teamed up with Elvis Costello on new album called Wise Up Ghost to be released on September 13th this year.

This would be the band’s first album since in 2011’s Undun, which charted a character named Redford Stephens, who after growing up in a rough-tough neighborhood, ultimately falls into a life of crime.

Which means that a trip down under looks like happening, especially with a host of shows before the New Year’s and maybe even at some festivals, including Summerdayz, the Falls Festival and even Big Day Out. Nothing has been announced yet, but stay tuned for more news. When we you know more, so will you.

Porter Robinson – Splendour In The Grass Sideshows

Following the success of this year’s Coachella Festival, Porter Robinson will remain on this festival high for Australia’s Splendour in the Grass. In addition to his Friday set at the festival, Porter Robinson will also be performing sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne with a whole new sound.

Known for his upbeat, electronic dance DJ sets, the American Producer will be trying something different for Australian shows off the back of his debut album Worlds. Instead of sampling other musicians, Robinson’s sets will only feature his own samples and tracks, with live instrumental performances.
