Underground Cinema – Actors Wanted (Melbourne)

Underground Cinema is looking for new actors (m/f) to join their dedicated, hard-working, and infamous in-house troupe of talented performers!

The UGC Acting troupe holds weekly rehearsals for each Underground Cinema event several weeks prior to the production, often led by guest Directors. The troupe works as an ensemble – each performer bringing their own particular skills to the improvisational work done in rehearsals – so that we can bring the characters, history and sense of space and time of the chosen film to life.

Be prepared: production days can be long – with call times early allowing for professional hair & make-up and costume teams to do their awesome thing – but the thrill of improvising around a base structure, working with trained experienced performers & directors of a high caliber and bouncing off our AMAZING UGC audience makes it all worth it!

If you’ve got a history in improvisation, a passion to improve your craft and get in amongst the pulse of Melbourne’s art and performance scene – this is for you!

Although auditions will be workshop-based, and lead by members of the current ensemble, please prepare a monologue of your choosing to present to the troupe. There is no specifications regarding your chosen piece, just chose something that you enjoy and think shows your talents off best!

Audition dates:
Wed 22nd Feb 2012 between 7-10pm

Be prepared for:
A monologue presentation, physical warm up & theatre improvisation & 3 hours of attendance in total.

On the day bring:
A hard copy of your Acting CV & if possible a head shot (although not compulsory)

You will preferably be:
Experienced and or trained in acting/performance and want to further your skills in this field. You will also be hard working and be able to commit to a minimum of 3 events. This is a long-term project and a volunteer position.

If this is you then please email us by 5pm on the 20th Feb 2012 with the subject heading “ACTOR”, a cover letter including your contact phone number and attach your CV.

You will be contacted by phone to book you into the audition. GOOD LUCK!

P.S. Please ensure that you have read the full job description and website before calling with any queries. Thankyou. http://www.undergroundcinema.com.au

Jared Leto Reportedly Set To Play The Joker

What do Jared Leto, Jack Nicolson and the late Heath Ledger have in common? Aside from all being Oscar winners, they will all have played the iconic Batman villain The Joker if rumours are to be believed.

The 30 Seconds to Mars frontman has reportedly been chosen as the favourite for the role, with TheWarp reporting that Warner Bros. wants him to don the twisted clown costume for the upcoming film, Suicide Squad scheduled for release in 2016. Jared had previously been rumoured to play Doctor Strange, but it was revealed recently that the role had gone to Benedict Cumberbatch.

Breaking Bad Blamed For Rising Crystal Meth Use

Breaking Bad hasn’t only attracted award buzz for it’s gritty, original story – it’s been blamed for a rise in crystal meth use in Britain and across Europe.

Statistics from the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction shows that there has been a rise in usage and attempts to smuggle the illegal substance across the UK and Germany and Heisenberg and Jesse could be to blame.

Professor Ellis Cashmore, an author on celebrity and media culture from Staffordshire University, has argued that the popularity of the hit TV series which starred Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, while not on purpose has played its part in glamorizing the drug and in a side effect, these figures increasing.
