Imogen Heap¡ If the name doesn¡¯t ring a bell, then perhaps you remember her 2005 hit ¡®Hide And Seek¡¯, a song that became synonymous with the season two finale of The OC where Marissa shot Trey.

This year marks five years since the release of her last album, Ellipse. However, fans of the British singer-songwriter are in for a treat, because it has been revealed that Imogen Heap will release her new album, Sparks exclusively to Australian fans on iTunes this Friday September 5, ahead of a wider release of the album next month.

Meanwhile, Heap has revealed that ¡®The Listening Chair¡¯, a song which features on the album, will never be finished as it covers the first 35 years of the singer¡¯s life in five minutes. Hence, she plans to add another minute to the track every seven years.

Exploring a range of concepts, inhabiting the voice of an old, neglected building and hidden lake, Heap admits that she used the songwriting process as a way to capture present thoughts and feelings, opposed to dwelling on the past.

¡°I¡¯d often write songs in a very retrospective way; I¡¯d be talking about something that happened five, ten or fifteen years ago,¡± Heap told Drowned In Sound. ¡° I always found I was never very present, and when I was making this album, I was desperately trying to connect myself to the present moment as much as possible. I felt like I wasn¡¯t living in the here and now, because I¡¯d always used my music to dredge up the past, so it was probably another thing I did deliberately this time around¡¡±

Considered Heap¡¯s most ambitious record yet, Australian fans should clear space in their iTunes libraries in anticipation for the 14-track Sparks release this Friday (September 5), as well as its wider digital and physical release on Friday October 10. Check below for the full tracklist.
