Soundwave Festival has announced UK prog-metal band, Monuments and ska punk outfit The Interrupters as the latest acts to join the ever-growing lineup for next year¡¯s festival. They join Japanese metalcore act Coldrain, Patent Pending and Butcher Babies on the officially confirmed bill.

Monuments¡¯ inclusion in the 2015 edition of the hard and heavy festival will mark the band¡¯s first Australian visit. With their powerful blend of djent and complex instrumental metal grooves, the London-based outfit is in high demand. Only a month since the passing of Soundwave 2014, fans were pestering AJ Maddah to bring the boundary-pushing act to Aussie shores.

Fronted by former Periphery member, Chris Barretto, the metal five-piece released their sophomore album, The Amanunensis, back in June. Described by the band as ¡°a complete experience¡± the record was inspired by David Mitchell¡¯s novel, Cloud Atlas, and according to guitarist John Browne, it explores ¡°the cyclical existence of life that we are all bound to.¡±

As rising stars in the progressive metal scene, Monuments avoid limiting their music by incorporating influences and instrumentation from a range of genres. ¡°Music is music,¡± said Browne. Adding: ¡°It has the same 12 notes as any other music. The only difference is the way it¡¯s expressed, so we use pretty silly words to try and explain the sound.¡±

Having received praise from Soundwave founder, AJ Maddah, who said they were his ¡°most beloved¡± act on the lineup, California ska punk quartet The Interrupters were a shoe in for next year¡¯s Soundwave roster.

¡°HEY AUSTRALIA!! We¡¯re coming for you and Soundwave 2015!!¡± wrote the band on Facebook today.

Comprised of frontwoman Aimee Allen, guitarist Kevin Bivona, bass player Justin Bivona, and drummer Jesse Bivona, The Interrupters make high-energy ska-punk that is equal parts catchy and confrontational. With a fierce political spirit, the band tackles topics like martial law, broken homes, abuse of power, and personal integrity, with a sense of humour and community.

The energetic four-piece unveiled their debut self-titled album earlier this year, which was produced by Rancid¡¯s Tim Armstrong, which will undoubtedly garner a new legion of fans for the band. Despite the somewhat serious subject matter, vocalist Aimee Allen says that foremost the band try to keep things upbeat.

¡°We have a lot of things that we¡¯re outraged about and we need to sing about those things, but we make sure to keep it fun¡± explains Aimee. ¡°Sometimes it¡¯s good to be happily outraged.¡±
