Aussie singer-songwriter Missy Higgins will embark on a national tour this September and October in support of her recently announced covers album OZ, which is set for release alongside her book of essays. According to Higgins¡¯ official website, the soon-to-be mum will play a 12-date run of shows, performing songs from OZ, as well as material from her extensive discography.
OZ and its companion book of essays, which uses the title of the tracks in the album as thematic starting points, marks the fourth album to Higgins¡¯ name and is set for release on September 19. The album, a collection of iconic Australian songs, features Higgins¡¯ cover of The Drones¡¯ hit, ¡®Shark Fin Blues¡¯, which is available to stream online now, as well as an official ¡®Making Of¡¯ video depicting the album¡¯s creation.
¡°I wanted to put together a group of wonderful Australian songs just as a different sort of challenge¡± said Higgins of the OZ project. ¡°I wanted to avoid all the obvious ones though because ¡®Great Aussie Songbook¡¯ collections have kinda been done to death. All that mattered was whether I felt I could make the songs my own so the tracklisting ended up as a real mixed bag of lollies.¡±
The Missy Higgins Australian Tour 2014 will kick off in Cairns, the day after the OZ book and album release, and will feature a host of support acts. Young singer-songwriter Dustin Tebbutt, whose evocative tracks ¡®The Breach¡¯ and ¡®Bones¡¯ have earned him regular airplay on triple j, will share the stage with Higgins. American composer Jherek Bischoff, who co-produced OZ, will also join the 30-year-old songstress on the road.
