Lorde volunteered as tribute to curate the soundtrack for highly anticipated film, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay ¨C Part 1.
The 17-year-old ¡®Royals¡¯ hitmaker, who covered ¡®Everybody Wants To Rule The World¡¯ by Tears For Fears for the Catching Fire soundtrack, will not only be the sole curator of the music compilation, but will also write an original song for the film.
Earlier this week, Lionsgate took to Twitter to announce the news. ¡°Grammy-winner ?@lordemusic to pen an original song & curate ?#Mockingjay Part 1 Soundtrack!¡±.
The Grammy Award winner will also be responsible for selecting every artist who will appear on the record for the third installment of the franchise.
¡°Curating the soundtrack for such a hotly-anticipated film was a challenge, but I jumped at the chance¡± said Lorde in a press release. ¡°The cast and story are an inspiration for all musicians participating and, as someone with cinematic leanings, being privy to a different creative process has been a unique experience. I think the soundtrack is definitely going to surprise people.¡±
The films, which are based on the novels by Suzanne Collins, stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth.
¡°I sat down with Lorde on the set of Mockingjay this spring and I was immediately struck by how she so innately understood what we, as both fans and filmmakers, were trying to accomplish with the film¡± said Lawrence of Lorde¡¯s involvement in the film.
She went on to say: ¡°Her immense talent and keen understanding of Mockingjay¡®s characters and themes not only had enabled her to create a song of her own that completely captures the film¡¯s essence, but her insight and passion for our project make her the perfect creative force to assembled the other songs on our soundtrack.¡±
Lorde confessed she was initially intimidated by the task, however she admitted that she was such a big fan that she jumped at the chance to be involved in the blockbuster.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay ¨C Part 1, featuring the musical guidance of Lorde, will hit Aussie cinemas on November 20.
