Irish indie act Two Door Cinema Club have cancelled their slot on this year¡¯s Splendour In The Grass, a week out from the three-day Byron Bay based festival.

The trio, were one of three headliners for the festival, and were set to play the Amphitheatre stage Saturday July 26. However, after the hospitalisation of lead singer Alex Trimble, and the subsequent cancellation of shows in Bournemouth and Suffolk this weekend, the band was forced to cancel their appearance Down Under.

¡°Splendour In The Grass has received news that Alex Trimble of Two Door Cinema Club is in hospital in the UK. As a result the band is no longer able to make the trip to Australia for their exclusive appearance at Splendour 2014¡± a statement from Splendour organisers read.

¡°Alex collapsed at Seattle airport on the way to London and has been hospitalised with a chronic stomach complaint¡± read a statement on the band¡¯s Facebook.

¡°We are devastated to have to cancel shows that we were so looking forward to. We can only apologise and hope for your understanding at this time.¡±

Two Door Cinema Club are the second band to pull out of this year¡¯s festival. Earlier this week, Nashville 5-piece, The Wild Feathers, pulled out of the festival, citing a ¡°scheduling conflict¡±. They were immediately replaced on the lineup by local act, MT Warning, and assured fans they would return to Australia in 2015.

Music¡¯s favourite bearded crooner, City and Colour, will now take over the top slot on the Splendour lineup, while UK indie rock outfit, Foals, have joined the stellar lineup.

¡°Our eleventh hour saviours (Foals) had a weekend off their European Festival headline tour, so decided that flying to the country that gave them their first No. 1 album was the right thing to do¡± Splendour organisers said.

As Two Door Cinema Club were not set to play any additional sideshows, it was the band¡¯s only scheduled Australian show.

Splendour In The Grass kicks off next week (July 25 to July 27) at North Byron Parklands in NSW, with sass queen Lily Allen and ¡®Hey Ya!¡¯ hip hop duo, Outkast still set to headline the festival.
