Marvel may be currently dominating the cinematic universe, but DC and Warner Bros will strike back from 2016 with the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

Warner Bros and Director Zack Snyder recently unveiled an exclusive image for the film, which reveals Henry Cavill (Man Of Steel) dressed in his superhero guise, red cape flailing in the wind on a rainy rooftop that appears to be in Batman¡¯s hometown of Gotham.

The film will serve as the sequel to 2013¡¯s Man Of Steel, which centres Superman (Cavill) as he struggles to find his place in the world as both Clark Kent and Superman. He is forced to confront his secret extrastellar origin and save the metropolis from its impending doom.
According to Snyder, the British actor is certainly more comfortable in the role the second time around, Snyder told USA Today.

¡°We¡¯ve both created this guy and we can push him around a little bit¡± he said. ¡°The more time I spend with Henry, the more he¡¯s Superman to me.¡±

Despite his apprehension to introduce Batman into the mix, Snyder decided it made sense with Dawn Of Justice to add Bruce Wayne and his alter ego to the cocktail of superheroes.

¡°I was in no rush to put Batman in the movie¡± Snyder said, ¡°but on the other hand it seemed organic the way our story was unfolding to start to feather him in.¡±

The sequel will see Superman on Earth, working at the Daily Planet as Clark Kent, along with Lois Lane (Amy Adams) and Perry White (Laurence Fishburne). However, the story will also take him to new places, such as Batman¡¯s hometown Gotham City.

Ben Affleck will star alongside Cavill as a more mature, road-weary Batman and The Social Network¡¯s Jesse Eisenberg will play the role of super baddie Lex Luthor.

Although Snyder has only filmed a few scenes with Cavill and Affleck thus far, he can already recognise the historical significance of putting the two superheroes on the big screen together. Therefore, he understands the hype surrounding the film, which is slated for release on May 16, 2016. ¡°You can talk all you want about other superhero movies, but it¡¯s Batman and Superman, let¡¯s just be honest,¡± Snyder said. ¡°I don¡¯t know how you get bigger than that.¡±
