Universal Pictures has confirmed the cast for the long awaited N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton.Universal confirmed the previously rumored cast by releasing an exclusive photo, which features the film¡¯s leads.

Set in mid-1980s Compton, the film chronicles the hip-hop super-group N.W.A ¨C comprised of Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and the late Eazy-E ¨C who, growing up in the hood, translated their experiences into brutally honest music and gave a voice to a silenced generation.

Producers Dre, Cube and Eazy-E¡¯s widow Tomica Woods-Wright, signed off on the actors who were to portray the rap group in the film, and after much debate, it was decided that Ice Cube will be played by his 23-year-old son O¡¯Shea Jackson Jr. He will join Orleans-based actor Jason Mitchell ¨C known for his small roles in Contraband and Broken City ¨C who will portray Eazy-E and Corey Hawkins (Non-Stop, Iron-Man 3) who is set to play Dre.

It is believed that Dre originally wanted Michael B. Jordan to play his younger self on the big screen, however, due to a scheduling conflict he was unable to do so (he is locked in to star in a Fantastic Four reboot).

While O¡¯Shea Jackson Jr. has no previous acting experience, we¡¯re sure he can get some acting advice from his 21 Jump Street father. According to Cube, casting is not yet complete ¨C the roles of MC Ren and DJ Yella are yet to be filled.

¡°Still looking for our MC Ren and DJ Yella. #straightouttacompton coming 8/14/15,¡± Cube wrote on Twitter.

In a recent interview, Ice Cube told MTV News that the film will stay true to reality and will be shot in Compton. ¡°This is our legacy, you can¡¯t play with this, there¡¯s no cutting corners. I¡¯m fully engulfed in that movie, very anal about it. It gotta be right,¡± said Cube.

F. Gary Gray is confirmed to direct the film. He made his stamp in Hollywood in 2003 when he directed a remake of The Italian Job, starring Edward Norton and Charlize Theron.

The movie is slated for an August, 2015 release.
